WEST OF EAST
Design research workshop in collaboration with the design platform “Its all, oh so souvenir to me!”, where a working group of archeologists, designers and university professors were put together in order to explore the island of Lesvos, Greece, and develop & produce souvenirs.
The creation of souvenirs that surpass superficial form factors require cultural, technical and market knowledge. These three disciplines need to blend and interact. Creating a workshop and an environment where people of these backgrounds coexist is a basic start.
As part of the workshop, six designers and four archaeologists followed five routes, were part of two round tables and one design thinking workshop over five days in the University of Aegean, on the island of Lesvos, Greece. The process led to the design and production of six different souvenirs which are now for sale in shops on the island of Lesvos.
